Community Connect: Sandy Young, Branch Manager of First US Bank Woodstock

By Savannah Logan

Many of you may know Sandy Young, Branch Manager of First US Bank Woodstock – but here are some things about her that you may not know! As our Community Connect feature this week, we hope to help you know your neighbor just a bit better than you did before.

Tell us about your family!

“I am married to Chris Young, and we have two boys: Seth, who is the co-owner of J&S Drugs, and Andrew, a lineman for Alabama Power. We also have a future daughter-in-law, Kamryn Reaves.”

How long have you lived in Bibb County?

“I have lived in Bibb County my whole life.”

How long have you worked for First US Bank in Woodstock?

“I started working in Woodstock in 1989 when the bank was originally Peoples Bank, owned by Mr. C.E. Hornsby. I left after three years and moved to the Centreville Branch. I returned to Woodstock as the branch manager a little over five years ago.”

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

“I love to travel and spend time with my family.”

How has being Branch Manager for the Woodstock location of First US Bank allowed you to impact your community?

“Being the branch manager has allowed me to participate in activities like the Senior Center, the yearly music festival, and delivering goody baskets to surrounding schools to help start the year. I also serve as a member of the Bibb County Chamber.”

Do you have any pets?

“I have a Yorkie named Tyson, who will be 15 years old in December, and three grand-puppies: Tucker, Lilly, and Cooper.”

What, or who, inspires you?

“I was 18 years old when I started working at the bank. There were five women who treated me like a daughter, and they are still like family to this day. I am the only one still working, as they have all retired!”

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

“Don’t wait if it’s something you want—life is too short and often taken for granted.”

What is your dream vacation?

“Italy and Hawaii.”

What’s your favorite place that you’ve ever visited?

“Being in Wyoming at Christmas with my family.”

What is your favorite meal?

“I love Italian food.”

It’s been a long week at the bank – what is your favorite way to unwind?

“Relaxing out back, especially when the weather is cool enough to sit by a fire.”

What are some of your favorite fall traditions?

“Sitting by the fire.”

Which fall holiday do you love most – Halloween or Thanksgiving?

“Thanksgiving by far—I love getting together with family and friends.”

What kind of music do you like to listen to most?

“I’m more into 96.5 oldies and traditional Christmas music.”

If you see Sandy out and about, be sure to stop and say hi! It’s people like her who make Bibb County the wonderful place to live that it is.
