West Blocton Police Respond to Potential School Threat, No Credible Danger Found

By Savannah Logan

On the morning of September 12, 2024, the West Blocton Police Department and other local authorities responded swiftly to a potential threat made via social media, which was reported by students in the area. Though the message did not specifically mention any school or town, it spread among students before being brought to the attention of school administration and the Bibb County Board of Education.

In response to the potential threat, the schools were placed on a “soft lockdown” while authorities worked to assess the situation. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer (SRO), Woodstock Police Department, and officers from the West Blocton Police Department were all on scene to provide security and investigate the matter.

After a thorough review of the facts, law enforcement has determined that there is no credible threat to any of the schools, students, or staff. The lockdown has since been lifted, and schools have resumed normal operations. However, the investigation into the origin of the social media post is ongoing.

In light of the situation, the West Blocton Police Department announced that there would be an increased law enforcement presence at local schools for the remainder of the day as an added precaution.

We also want to commend the school staff and the SRO for their outstanding response,” the West Blocton Police Department said in a statement shared to Facebook. “Their dedication and quick actions are vital to ensuring the safety and security of our schools.”

No further information has been released at this time, but authorities encourage students and parents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
