UA Athletes Compete at 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris

The world is abuzz with excitement as the 2024 Summer Olympics have commenced in the city of Paris, France. This year’s games are being held from Friday, July 26, 2024, to Sunday, August 11, 2024, and mark a historic return of the Olympics to Paris after a 100-year hiatus, as the last games held in Paris was in 1924. The French capital is set to provide a spectacular backdrop for the athletes as they compete in various disciplines, showcasing their dedication and skill. The city, known for its rich cultural heritage and iconic landmarks, promises to offer a unique and memorable experience for both athletes and spectators. 

The Alabama Crimson Tide is proudly represented at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with 15 alumni and 2 current athletes competing across a variety of sports. The participation of these athletes is a testament to the strength and versatility of Alabama’s sports programs. Here’s a look at the talented individuals flying the Crimson Tide flag on the global stage: 

  • Kalia Antoniou (Cyprus, Swimming and Diving): Competing in the swimming events, Kalia is set to showcase her prowess in the pool, representing Cyprus. 
  • Luisa Blanco (Colombia, Women’s Gymnastics): A dynamic gymnast, Luisa aims to bring her artistry and athleticism to the Colombian team. 
  • Kristian Gkolomeev (Greece, Swimming and Diving): A seasoned swimmer, Kristian will be competing for Greece, looking to make waves in the pool. 
  • Daniel Haugh (USA, Men’s Hammer Throw): As a hammer thrower, Daniel represents the USA, demonstrating power and precision in this challenging event. 
  • Victor Johansson (Sweden, Swimming and Diving): Victor dives into competition for Sweden, aiming to make a splash in the swimming events. 
  • Shelby McEwen (USA, Men’s High Jump): Shelby will be leaping for new heights in the men’s high jump, representing the USA. 
  • Anton McKee (Iceland, Swimming and Diving): Competing for Iceland, Anton will be taking on the world’s best in the swimming events. 
  • Stephanie Meadow (Ireland, Women’s Golf): On the golf course, Stephanie will represent Ireland, aiming for precision and excellence. 
  • Kyle Micallef (Malta, Swimming and Diving): As a swimmer for Malta, Kyle is set to compete with the best in the world. 
  • Samuel Ogazi (Nigeria, Track and Field): Samuel will showcase his sprinting prowess in track and field events, representing Nigeria. 
  • Shallon Olsen (Canada, Women’s Gymnastics): A talented gymnast, Shallon represents Canada with grace and power. 
  • Tarsis Orogot (Uganda, Track and Field): Competing for Uganda, Tarsis brings speed and determination to the track. 
  • Jareem Richards (Trinidad & Tobago, Track and Field): Jareem will be sprinting for Trinidad & Tobago, aiming for top finishes in track events. 
  • Erin Routliffe (New Zealand, Women’s Tennis): As a tennis player, Erin will represent New Zealand, showcasing skill and strategy on the court. 
  • Portious Warren (Trinidad & Tobago, Women’s Shot Put): Competing in the shot put, Portious brings strength and technique to the field for Trinidad & Tobago. 
  • Kirani James (Grenada, Track & Field): An accomplished sprinter, Kirani represents Grenada, aiming for glory in track events. 
  • Olivia Fotopoulou (Cyprus, Track & Field): Olivia will compete for Cyprus, demonstrating speed and agility on the track.
